Since this franchise launched in March 2018, the source material has already become one of the best-selling mangas of all time — and the anime is breaking all kinds of records too, most notably with the recent prequel movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 release date: When will it air?

Jujutsu Kaisen season two releases on July 6, 2023. The release date was confirmed by the official Jujutsu Kaisen Twitter account in March, along with the extended teaser trailer you can see above.

The news follows some previous announcements about the new season’s structure. In September 2022 at a 10th-anniversary event for production company TOHO, we found out that season two will be released in two halves, or cours, each focusing on different arcs from the manga. This split-cour approach is not dissimilar to the release schedule of other anime shows like SPY x FAMILY.

We’ve also got glimpses of what those arcs will contain thanks to two teaser images. The first features Gojo Satoru, Geto Suguru and Shoko Ieiri in their Jujutsu High uniforms (suggesting a prequel arc), while the latest, titled ‘The Shibuya Incident’ features our modern-day heroes Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki.

But what about Yuta Okkotsu, the main character who stars in Jujutsu Kaisen 0? The manga strongly suggests that he’ll appear in the main show very soon, and a post-credits scene in the prequel movie pretty much confirms that too.

Here’s what English voice actor Kayleigh McKee had to say when we asked her about this possibility:

“I would certainly love it if that happened. Honestly, I know nothing of where Yuta will go from here, if anywhere, but I do know that if he comes back, I would be very excited to explore him further evolving and maturing.”

McKee added: “My idea of what I think he would be, and become, as he matures further after learning these lessons, and potentially going through more hardships, and how he’ll handle those differently, is so exciting to think about.

“Being able to get that ability to portray more evolution for a character like this, who’s one of my favourite characters that I’ve portrayed, is a very good thought. And I do hope it happens.”

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 plot: What will happen?

The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen ended with the Death Painting Arc, which covers chapters 55-64 in the manga. We now know that season two will pick up the source material chronologically with ‘Gojo’s Past Arc’ from chapters 65-79.

Trailers and teaser images have confirmed that, following the flashback arc, we’ll be returning to Jujutsu High for the manga’s Shibuya Incident arc.

Without spoiling too much, that means season two will be dealing with some major character developments, as well as the identity of the mole currently hiding out in the school.

A post-credits scene in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 also hinted that Yuta will soon arrive on the scene, which sounds great in theory, but let’s just say this doesn’t bode well for Yuji…

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 trailer: When can I see it

An updated teaser trailer for Jujutsu Kaisen season two was shared in March, alongside the July 6 release date, that also teased the introduction of a few key characters from Gojo and Geto’s past.

You can watch it at the top of the article, or here if you missed it. Unfortunately, it’s currently only available in Japanese.

Namely, we’ve got their classmate Riko Amanai and the mysterious man sent to assassinate her, Toji Fushiguro. Oh, and he just happens to be present-day Jujutsu High student Megumi’s father.
